October Blog Assignment: The Biopsychosocial Model
My mentor and I this month had explored the biopsychosocial model. Which is also known as BPS. The model is a breakdown of three things biological, psychological and social
Biological aspect of it is how the body reacts to therapy and the medication that is being taken. Example if a patient is not sleeping well, diseases, or just the way your body handles the medication.
Psychological part is how is the therapy is treating the client. They could be attending therapy and their mind isn't making necessarry connections. That person might need psychologist. This applies to how the therapy is allowing a client to remain in control of any mental diseases or disorders they have.
The social aspect of BPS is the support a patient has outside the therapy room. This includes: family, friends, or groups they have joined. This gives a client the encouragement to attend therapy sessions.
All these traits are what make up the biopsychosocial model and take one of these things out and it can cause a patient to go back to return to previous behaviors or not control their mental health.
This diagram displays it and how all the characteristics relate and connect as a whole. The diagram is an excellent
model that should be followed by patients.
